LUNA SOL
HIGH MOUNTAIN STONER ROCK FROM DENVER
Luna Sol is a high mountain stoner rock band fronted by veteran singer and lead guitarist David Angstrom (Hermano, Supafuzz, Black Cat Bone). Angstrom moved to the mountains just north of Denver in 2012 and started soaking in the strange but relaxed mountain communities around him. From its onset, Luna Sol was created simply to be a creative outlet for Angstrom to write riffs, have a few laughs and make some music with friends as it grew over time to whatever it was to become. Nothing had to remain consistent, nothing had to be set in stone. Inspired by the local news and folklore of his new Rocky Mountain home, Angstrom started writing the songs that would become the projects first release in 2015 titled “Blood Moon”. On 2017’s sophomore effort “Below The Deep” Angstrom wanted to go further…adjusting the line up to stay true to the heart of the project. “I didn’t want to rehash the same old riffs,” says Angstrom. “I wanted to expand a bit, and touch on my Kentucky roots without leaving the fuzzy rock scene I’m so proud to be a part of.” With guitar solos you can sing note for note, and the clearly troubled personal lyrics, Angstrom creates a tension we can all empathetically relate to. Then came covid …the band was put on ice, though Angstrom kept writing. It was clear early on that the new batch of riffs were moving even further toward his Southern “Muddy Soulfire Blues Rock” upbringing. He made a call to his friend Zeth Pedulla from King Rat/Horse to come over to start knocking out the new riffs together. (fun fact – Zeth is actually the first drummer Dave jammed with when creating Luna Sol in 2012) Zeth brought in his long time friend, Doug Tackett (also from Horse) to fill in the first night for fun. The connection was immediate and somewhat magical. Doug’s distorted, blues-driven bass prowess and Zeth’s massive vintage grooves took the riffs to new heights. Luna Sol has enjoyed much kindness over the years from global press outlets including Revolver, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang, Marquee Magazine, Metal Sucks, Scene Magazine, Stoner Hive, Crave Online, Invisible Oranges, Rocker Stalker, Antiquiet, Spin, Pure Volume, Classic Rock, Vice Noisy and many others. The albums often have included Angstrom’s friends from notable bands such as Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Guns ’n Roses, Kentucky Headhunters, etc. The first two releases came out on Cargo Records in Europe and SLUSH FUND in the US. The new album will be released on Ripple Music in 2024 worldwide. The band continues to play in the Denver scene and is entertaining European dates. The riffs are flowing, the tones are massive and the fun continues.
